The Golden Temple is a gurdwara, which literally means, gateway to the guru, a place of worship for Sikhs. This is considered one of the holiest places in Sikhism, because the Adi Granth, the first draft of what is basically the Sikh equivalent of the bible, the Guru Granth Sahib, was installed here. More than 100,00 people worship at the Golden Temple every day
